Hours after Football Kenya Federation (FKF) banned two Mathare United players over match-fixing allegations, the club issued a statement stating that they will conduct their own investigations into the matter.

In a statement on its social media, the 2008 league champions disclosed that the club also will conduct separate investigations on the individuals implicated in the issue.

The FKF integrity department suspended Lennox Ogutu and captain Alphonce Ndonye for allegedly engaging in match-fixing.

“Sincerely believing our players and team were far better than the results for most of our matches so far this year, MUFC management launched discrete investigations and then shared our findings and concerns with FKF,” a statement by Mathare United read in part.

Mathare United confirmed that indeed the duo had been suspended but highlighted that further comments from the club will be released as further investigations are underway.

“Late Monday afternoon that led to the immediate suspension by our club and by FKF of two key MUFC players for suspected match-fixing: our veteran midfielder Alphonse Ndonye and key central defender Lennox Ogutu,” Mathare United’s statement further read.

Prior to Mathare’s reply, FKF had sent a letter addressing the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chris Obure, acknowledging the presence of receipts that link the two players with match-fixing practices.

Obure was asked to provide official contacts of the affected players, including telephone numbers and email addresses.
