African 100 m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala on Wednesday smashed the National record over 60m after winning the Mondeville Indoor meeting in France with a new blistering 6.55secs.
The Commonwealth champion lowered his previous mark of 6.57secs, also set in France last year, as he won his first race of the year.
His heroics also come six days after matching his personal best record over 60 m in Miramas, France.
During the heated final Omanyala edged out Ivorian Arthur Cisse who beat him in his first indoor meet last weekend in Miramas, where he clocked 6.60secs to finish fourth.
Cisse came in second in Mondeville, clocking 6.59secs with Charles Dobson of the United Kingdom clocking 6.61secsn to secure third position.
Omanyala had in the first heat run 6.63 in second place behind Great Britain’s Andrew Robertson before kicking himself on in the final.
“A great improvement and delighted of course with the results, given it was a fantastic race and I have envisioned to run below 6.60secs and that’s what I achieved,” Omanyala said.
Soon after the race in Mondeville, Omanyala will now shift his attention to the third indoor meet in the French capital Paris on Saturday.
In other races in the just concluded Mondeville Meeting, Kenya’s Alex Ng’eno finished third in the men’s 800 m final in 1:50.38 behind Javier Miron from Spain in 1:49.50 and Briton Daniel Rowden in 1:49.52.
Commonwealth 800 m champion Mary Moraa was in Poland for her debut in the World Indoor Tour, where she managed to come in fourth, clocking 2:01:51 in the Womens category at Orlen Copernicus Cup at Arena, Toruń.
