UDA candidate Chege Njuguna wins Kandara MP seat

KANDARA, Kenya, Jan 6 – United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate, Chege Njuguna has been declared winner for Kandara Member of Parliament seat after garnering 21, 650 votes.

Chege was closely followed by Titus Njau Mbuchu who got 14, 678 votes. Mbuchu vied on a Ford Asili ticket. Kibiru PMG Junior of Usawa kwa Wote party came third after getting 1,469 votes.

The other five candidates managed to get less than 200 votes in an exercise which was marred by low turnout.

The returning officer Linet Kilonzo said voter turnout was 38.6 percent in a constituency which has 105, 148 registered voters.

Kilonzo said the exercise of tallying votes ended a few minutes to 5am lauding people of Kandara for their patience adding the by-elections was peaceful.

“There were no cases of chaos and we lauded the residents for maintaining peace during the exercise,” she added.

After receiving the certificate, Chege promised to take over the development agenda of the constituency from where former MP Alice Wahome left.

“Am grateful to the UDA brigade which supported me in the campaigns. I assure the people of Kandara I will not let you down as your legislator,” he added.

Chege continued, “Time of politics is over and I call upon those who we were competing to join hands to work for the people of this constituency.”

He observed that his first assignment is to ensure the needy students get bursaries before they report for the first term.

“Needy students who depend on bursaries from the National Government-Constituency Development Fund are eagerly waiting for the money so they can prepare to report back to school from January 21. I will embark to ensure the bursaries are prepared for the learners,” promised Chege.

The position was left vacant after Alice Wahome was appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Water, Irrigation and Sanitation.
