Kenya National Transport and Safety Authority has rolled out a new automated system that will instantly notify motorists of traffic violations through SMS alerts as part of efforts to modernize road law enforcement.

In a public notice issued on 9 March 2026, the National Transport and Safety Authority said the Instant Fines Traffic Management System is now operational and will automatically issue traffic violation notifications to motorists where applicable.

Officials said the platform is designed to streamline the process of issuing and settling traffic fines while reducing human involvement in enforcement.

The authority noted that once a violation is detected, the system automatically generates a notification and sends it directly to the motorist via SMS.

NTSA said the digital platform operates without human intervention, ensuring fairness and transparency in traffic enforcement.

Authorities believe the automated approach will help reduce disputes commonly associated with manual traffic policing and improve accountability in road safety management.

“This process is fully automated and operates without human intervention, ensuring greater transparency, efficiency and accountability in traffic enforcement,” NTSA said in the notice.

The regulator added that the system is part of wider government efforts to digitize public services and improve road safety oversight across the country.

Seven-day window to settle fines

Motorists who receive traffic violation alerts will be required to settle their fines within seven days through designated payment channels.

NTSA said payments will be processed through the branch network of KCB Group.

“All fines issued through the system can be paid through the branch network of KCB Group within seven days,” the authority said.

Drivers who fail to clear the fines within the stipulated period will face additional penalties, including interest charged on the outstanding amount.

NTSA also warned that motorists with pending fines will not be able to access services on NTSA platforms until the fines are cleared.

The authority urged motorists to follow traffic regulations and respond promptly to official notifications issued through the system.
