Kenya Airways has warned passengers to expect flight delays after low visibility disrupted operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport affecting both arrivals and departures.
The national carrier said on Friday, April 10, that poor weather conditions had reduced visibility at the airport, forcing operational adjustments to maintain safety.
Kenya Airways said multiple scheduled flights were affected, leading to delays across domestic and international routes. The airline emphasized that safety remains its top priority as crews continue to manage the disruption.
“We wish to inform our customers to expect some flight delays for departures and arrivals due to low visibility affecting operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,” the airline said.
Flights diverted to Mombasa
The airline confirmed that some flights were diverted to Moi International Airport in Mombasa as a precautionary measure due to unsafe landing conditions at JKIA.
“Some of our flights have been diverted to Moi International Airport, Mombasa. Flight diversion is a necessary safety precaution to ensure the safety of all onboard and remains our highest priority,” the statement said.
Kenya Airways said its operational teams were monitoring the situation closely and working with airport authorities to restore normal operations once visibility improves.
The airline also apologized to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and urged travelers to remain patient as adjustments continue.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding,” the airline added.
The disruption comes amid recurring weather-related challenges affecting flight operations at JKIA. Earlier incidents have seen heavy rains in Nairobi cause delays and force diversions to Mombasa, affecting flight schedules.
Passengers have been advised that travel plans may continue to change depending on weather conditions as safety remains the primary concern for all operations.
