The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) President, Paul Tergat on Friday signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Team Kenya Pre-Games Preparations for Paris 2024 with Bouches-du-Rhône in Miramas, France.

The MOU will see Team Kenya settle in Miramas during the 2024 Olympic Games in July to prepare in France with state-of-the-art facilities for the global bonanza.

The partnership aims at preparing individual athletes and teams to enable them to perform well at the Olympics games.

The MOU also incorporates coaches’ training, technical, support, and infrastructure development.

Early last year, the NOC-K Executive initiated discussions with Miramas, the South of France in the City of Marseille, and a delegation from either party had orientation visits, with the Miramas team visiting in December last year to finalize details of the MOU.

With the MOU signed pre-camps are expected to start immediately with the first batch of Kenyan sprinters expected to jet out in the coming month.

Miramas will accommodate the delegation with the Stadium Miramas Metropole as the main training ground.

The event was held at the Stadium Miramas Metropole, during the World Athletics Indoor meeting.

Miramas is home to Stadium Miramas Metropole, which hosts international athletics competitions and other sports events including Diamond Leagues, handball, basketball, boxing, fencing, judo, and badminton.

Those present include the President of the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Council and the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis – Martine Vassal, the Mayor of Miramas – Frederic Vigouroux, and French Athletics Federation President – André Giraud.

Tergat was accompanied by NOC-K Secretary General, Francis Mutuku, Treasurer, Eliud Kariuki, and Kenya’s Ambassador to France, Prof Judi Wakhungu.

Soon after the signing of the MOU, Africa’s fastest man in Africa over 100 m Ferdinand Omanyala added the icing on the cake in the men’s 60 m dash where he clocked 6.60 to set yet another national record over the distance.
