Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has become the subject of intense interest from Saudi Pro League clubs following his announcement that he will depart Anfield at the end of the 2025-26 season.
The 33-year-old Egyptian international confirmed the mutual agreement with Liverpool, bringing his remarkable nine-year spell with the club to a close. He will leave on a free transfer after both parties agreed to terminate his contract early by mutual consent.
Salah signed a two-year contract extension in 2025 worth approximately GBP400,000 a week. The decision to part ways means he will forgo the final year of that deal, allowing him to explore new opportunities without a transfer fee attached. Liverpool described the move as the end of an “illustrious career” at the club, where Salah has become one of its greatest players.
The news has triggered immediate speculation about his next destination, with Saudi Arabia emerging as a frontrunner due to the financial power of its top clubs.
Saudi clubs prepare lucrative offers
Media reports indicate that several Saudi Pro League sides, supported by the kingdom’s Public Investment Fund, are preparing substantial offers for the Egyptian star. Clubs including Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal are reportedly exploring three-year contracts that could reach up to GBP61.5 million per year, plus a signing bonus of around GBP26.5 million — potentially creating a total package worth roughly GBP210 million, tax-free.
Al-Ittihad, which made a rejected GBP150 million bid for Salah in 2023, has reportedly resumed pursuit and sees him as a potential new leader following Karim Benzema’s move to Al-Hilal. The club possesses the financial muscle to meet Salah’s demands and strengthen its squad significantly.
Possible tensions between Al-Nassr and their star player Cristiano Ronaldo could open the door for Salah should the club seek a fresh chapter. Al-Hilal, one of the league’s most successful sides, also remains in the conversation as a potential destination.
Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, has noted that no final decision has been made, emphasising that the player’s focus remains on finishing the current campaign strongly with Liverpool. The Egyptian has expressed gratitude to fans and teammates while signalling that this marks the first part of his farewell.
During his time at Liverpool, Salah has delivered memorable performances, helping the club secure major trophies and etching his name into Anfield folklore. His departure will leave a significant void in the attacking line, prompting Liverpool to begin planning for life without one of their modern icons.
As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will remain on Salah’s next move. Whether he chooses the lucrative path in Saudi Arabia or explores other options, the Egyptian star’s next chapter promises to be one of the biggest stories in world football.
