David Kipsang Keter has secured the United Democratic Alliance nomination for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election after a closely contested party primary ahead of the 14 May 2026 vote.

Keter garnered 13,749 votes to edge out Bernard Kipkoech Ngeno, who received 13,394 votes, highlighting the tight nature of the race in the constituency.

The nomination exercise attracted significant attention due to the narrow margin and strong voter turnout, underlining the high political stakes surrounding the upcoming by-election.

The closely fought contest reflected growing political interest in the Emurua Dikirr seat, with both candidates running intensive grassroots campaigns across the constituency.

Observers said the slim vote difference pointed to deep voter engagement and heightened competition, positioning the by-election as one to watch in Kenya political landscape.

Keter victory now places him at the centre of the race as he prepares to face off with candidates from rival parties in the May poll.

Leaders across the political divide praised the conduct of both candidates and voters, noting the calm and orderly nature of the nomination exercise.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen congratulated Keter, citing his resilience and persistence in securing the party ticket.

Murkomen also commended Ngeno for mounting a strong challenge, describing the contest as competitive and respectful.

He further praised residents for maintaining peace during the process, noting the unique and civil atmosphere witnessed throughout the campaigns and voting.

Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei described the nomination as well coordinated, transparent and efficient, while Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya echoed similar sentiments, applauding both candidates and voters.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of area MP Johana Ng’eno, who died in a helicopter crash in Nandi on 28 February 2026.

Reports indicated the helicopter burst into flames upon impact, with footage showing thick smoke rising from the wreckage.

The incident shocked residents and leaders, prompting preparations for a by-election to fill the vacant parliamentary seat.

With the nomination secured, Keter will now carry United Democratic Alliance flag in the by-election scheduled for 14 May 2026.

The contest is expected to draw national attention as political parties seek to strengthen their influence in the region.

Keter campaign is likely to focus on consolidating support from the nomination while appealing to a broader electorate in the constituency.
