Commonwealth Games champion and Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala is confident enough that he is in good shape this season and believes nobody in track and field can beat him while at his peak years.

According to Omanyala when his body is in good shape beating him will be a tough nut to crack as the African 100 metres record holder gears up to entertain athletic enthusiasts in the upcoming Kip Keino classic this weekend.

“I am in the best form of my life, good shape to break records. I have prepared well and am determined not to lose any race this year with my target being the world record which I believe I will achieve,” Omanyala said.

On the other hand, Olympics 200 m silver medallist Kenneth Bednarek has said his target is not only to prove his naysayers wrong but to beat Africa’s fastest man and Kenya’s home favourite Ferdinand Omanyala who triumphed in the race last year.

“Victory in Kenya will mean a lot to me. I know it will be a very tough competition and beating Omanyala at home will be such a tall order,” he said.

Bednarek was put down by a nagging injury for the most part of last season which hampered his performance on the track which also saw him finish sixth in the third edition of the Absa Kip Keino Classic at Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani last year.

Omanyala and Bednarek will be up against other top guns in the race who include world 4x100m relay champion Jerome Blake of Canada and the world 100 m silver medallist Marvin Bracy of the United States of America.

With the stage for tomorrow’s Classic meeting, only time can tell if indeed Omanyala can break Jamaican legend sprinter Usain Bolt’s World record of 9;58 seconds.
