Timely boost as KBL injects Ksh2 million to Driftwood Sevens

The much-awaited Driftwood Sevens set to be held in Mombasa this weekend has received a major boost ahead of the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Seven circuit tournament.
This comes after Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), through its flagship brand Tusker announced a 2-million-shilling sponsorship deal towards the second round of the 2023 National Sevens Circuit, dubbed Driftwood Sevens, which is set to be held at the Mombasa Sports Club.
The tournament which is hosted by Mombasa RFC is set to feature some of the top Sevens teams in the circuit.
Circuit leaders KCB are top seeds and headline Pool A in Division 1 which also has Nakuru RFC, Nondescripts, and Blak Blad while Pool B has Kabras Sugar, Homeboyz, Kisumu RFC, and hosts Mombasa RFC.
Strathmore Leos, third-place finishers in Dala Sevens are in Pool C with reigning circuit champions Menengai Oilers, Catholic Monks, and Masinde Muliro.
Ngong road-based side Kenya Harlequin Headline Pool D which also comprises defending Driftwood champions Mwamba RFC, Daystar Falcons and Kabarak University who won the division two competition in Kisumu.
The tournament order play as well as division two pools will be released in subsequent communication according to the Kenya Rugby Union.
KCB RFC which is being coached by former Shujaa Captain Andrew Amonde won the just concluded Dala Sevens tournament in Kisumu after beating Kenya Cup heavyweights Kabras 17-5 in a final that was held on Sunday, June 2, 2023, leading the circuit standings with 22 points.
