Uhuru joins Raila in prayers for victims

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta participated in interdenominational prayers in Nairobi alongside Azimio leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo musyoka and other leaders. Originally, the prayers were supposed to take place at De Paul Grounds in Karen, but the location was altered a few hours later.

The mass honoring those killed during the anti-government protests will now take place today at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (SKM) Command Center in Karen, Nairobi.

The Raila Odinga-led coalition issued a statement yesterday calling for somber interdenominational prayers to be held at specific locations for all of their supporters across the nation.

“Azimio gives these prayers, which are being held in memory of men and women, boys and girls who were shot and killed or wounded at close range, a grave significance. Many of them were shot in the back as they fled or tried to surrender. The abdomen, spine, chest, and head were targeted for gunfire, as were other critical bodily areas.” in a statement released on Thursday, Azimio said that all of the victims were unarmed.

On the other hand, according to the Interior Ministry, 156 attacks and 305 injuries to police personnel were registered during the anti-government demonstrations.

The coalition promises to keep protesting the high cost of living and hefty taxes. But for now the  prayers will go on all weekend long.
