LSK North Rift condemns assault of advocate by police in Nandi
LSK North Rift Chairperson Oscar Oduor
The Law Society of Kenya North Rift branch has condemned the brutal attack and assault of an advocate of the high court serving in Nandi County by Police officers.
Advocate Moses Rotich is reported to have been attacked on Tuesday 16 December by police officers from Tinderet Police Station while he was lawfully serving a valid court order in a civil matter in Kapsabet.
LSK Branch Chairperson Oscar Oduor revealed that advocate Rotich sustained serious injuries in several parts of his body, raising concerns about his safety.
“Rotich is currently under medication but once he is stable, he will record a statement concerning the matter,” he said.
Oduor further called on the Independent Police Oversight Authority and other legal entities to treat the attack of advocate Rotich with utmost seriousness stating that an attack on an advocate in the lawfully execution of duty is an attack on the justice system itself.
“We demand the immediate interdiction and Independent investigation of all police officers involved in the assault of Advocate Rotich. We also want constitutional, civil and criminal accountability against all persons found culpable, including third parties who might have instigated the attack,” he added.
Oduor’s sentiments were echoed by John Chebii who pointed a blaming finger to police who take advantage of the power bestowed upon them to torture innocent Kenyans. He also demanded the police heads to put an abrupt end to police cover ups and adhere to the law.
“No body is above the law. This is a call to police heads to ensure that even the enforcers found on the wrong side of the law are called out and rooted accordingly,” said Chebii.
Attack on Advocate Rotich by the police is reported to be the first case in the North Rift region with the LSK fraternity vowing to be fully involved in the case to prevent a repeat of such occurrence in the future.
