The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has warned Kenyans about fraudulent job advertisements circulating on social media, urging job seekers to rely only on official recruitment channels.

In a statement shared on its verified platforms on Friday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission said several posts claiming to offer employment opportunities within the commission are fake and not linked to any official recruitment process.

The commission cautioned members of the public to verify all recruitment information through its official communication channels before submitting applications or personal details.

“Fake Jobs Alert! Beware of fraudulent job advertisements on social media,” the commission said in a public notice. It added that the only legitimate source for employment information is its official jobs portal and website.

Authorities warned that fraudsters often design misleading posts that resemble official government recruitment notices in order to trick unsuspecting job seekers.

According to the commission, several online posts have recently circulated claiming that recruitment had been launched to fill various election-related positions.

Some of the posts included instructions stating that shortlisted candidates would be contacted through email after submitting applications through provided links.

Another post appeared as a formal public notice inviting Kenyans to apply for vacant positions and included an application portal link that appeared authentic.

A third example displayed a portal-style interface with the message “submit your application now,” asking users to provide personal information such as full names and nationality in order to apply for polling personnel and assistant roles.

The commission stressed that these advertisements are fraudulent and not associated with any genuine recruitment exercise conducted by the electoral body.

The warning comes days after the commission officially announced applications for 12,520 temporary positions to support a 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration exercise at the ward level.

The announcement was made on 25 February 2026 through the commission official account on *X*.

“We’re hiring! The Commission invites qualified applicants to apply for temporary positions to support the thirty day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration exercise at the ward level,” the announcement said.

The recruitment includes three categories of positions: voter registration clerks, voter registration assistants and ICT clerks.

Voter registration clerks form the largest group of vacancies, followed by voter registration assistants and ICT clerks. Youths were strongly encouraged to apply for the temporary positions.

Successful applicants will support the intensive ward-based registration exercise aimed at increasing the number of registered voters across Kenya ahead of future elections.

The commission urged Kenyans to remain vigilant online and avoid engaging with suspicious recruitment advertisements.

It advised job seekers to confirm all employment announcements through official platforms before submitting applications.

Authorities say the caution is part of broader efforts to protect citizens from rising online fraud targeting people searching for employment opportunities.
