Kirinyaga “tenderprenuers” demonstrate over unpaid dues

Businessmen, suppliers and contractors from kirinyaga County held demonstrations, citing non-payment by the county for work done.

Led by their leader Fredrick Kinyua, the suppliers marched to the office of the governor have threatened to go to court if they did not get paid, saying some of the pending payments were from the previous regime headed by Joseph Ndathi.

“We have not been paid more than KSh420 million and this has held us from progressing. All we want is for the county government to pay us our money and we are sure the current government has a capability of paying the old debt,” Kinyua said.

He says they have tried to reach to governor Ann Waiguru but the only feedback they get is that they belong to Ndathi, remarks which have irritated them.

Some suppliers used title deeds to secure loans and since there is no money channeling in their bank accounts, the banks are now threatening to take action to recover their money. Some say they will be left homeless.

They have given the county government 40 days to pay, failure to which they will seek legal intervention.
