Doctors in Mombasa have called off their strike after reaching an agreement with the County Government of Mombasa, ending a dispute that began with a strike notice issued on 24 February 2026.

The resolution, dated 3 March 2026, follows negotiations between doctors’ representatives and the county administration led by Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir.

The agreement secures promotions, conversion of contract staff to permanent terms and settlement of pending statutory deductions.

Under the deal, eligible doctors across multiple job groups will receive promotions on specific dates.

Fifteen doctors in Group M will immediately collect promotion letters to Group N.

Thirty-three doctors will move from Group N to P on 1 April 2026.

Seventy-eight doctors in Group P will transition to Group Q in two phases — 39 on 1 April 2026 and 39 on 1 July 2026.

Seventeen doctors will advance from Group Q to R starting 1 April 2026, while four doctors in Group R will be promoted to Group S by 1 July 2026.

The structured schedule was among the key demands raised in the strike notice.

The county also committed to converting 64 doctors currently serving on contract to Permanent and Pensionable terms effective 1 June 2026.

The move grants long-term job security and access to full employment benefits under county service.

All pending statutory deductions owed to doctors will be cleared in full by 1 September 2026, according to the agreement.

Both parties further agreed that medical personnel and operations will remain free from political interference.

The interdiction of the county CEO has been lifted, with the matter proceeding before the Employment and Labour Relations Court to ensure due legal process.

Doctors said they will monitor implementation of the agreement to ensure adherence to the agreed timelines.
