Nigerians barred from entering Seychelles
The Government of Seychelles has apparently barred Nigerians from entering its country due to undisclosed reasons.
However, there are rumours that the move was prompted by the recent arrest of Nigerians in the country who were found in possession of illegal drugs.
According to Nigerian vlogger, Bigwig Austin, who shared a screenshot on Twitter of the immigration services of Seychelles, any Nigerian passport holder is not allowed to enter the East African island.
“We regret to inform you that your application has been denied, as per immigration regulation, for now we are not accepting any NIGERIAN passport holder for holiday purposes. Kindly contact http://www.ics.gov.sc/ (Seychelles Immigration) or call 248 4 293 636 for more information,” read the screenshot.
As a result, there is now a huge debate brewing on why Nigerian passport holders are getting to be side-lined by some countries.
“We have been blacklisted even in our own continent. This is a direct effect of the kind of leadership we support and defend. Fact is many Nigerians left Nigeria because of the bad governance with the mentality that anything goes as already ingrained in them back home. You can’t completely absolve the Government. Just like when a child goes bad the first blame goes to the parents or guardian before the child,” said Austin.
In addition, Chukwuma Nwankwo, a Nigerian computer scientist said the Government was to blame for this recent developments.
“This is what you get when a drug lord is allowed to be the President of a nation. Carriers of Nigerian passport are not allowed to enter Seychelles, this is just the beginning,” said Nwankwo.
In recent months Nigerian passport holders have been put under scrutiny in countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States of America.
