Kenya has fulfilled its financial and institutional commitments to the Confederation of African Football, marking a major milestone in preparations to co host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The government confirmed it has remitted the required hosting fee of USD 30 million, approximately KSh 3.9 billion, signaling readiness to deliver one of Africa’s premier sporting events. The payment underscores Kenya credibility as a host nation and its commitment to meeting continental football standards.
Officials say the move strengthens confidence among stakeholders, including sponsors, partners and participating nations. It also reinforces Kenya position as a reliable destination for large scale international sporting events.
Preparations progress
To streamline preparations, the government has restructured a Multi Agency Local Organizing Committee bringing together stakeholders from both public and private sectors. The committee will coordinate key areas including infrastructure, logistics, security and event operations.
Authorities say the integrated approach is designed to match the scale and complexity of AFCON. The structure is expected to enhance accountability while enabling faster decision making across sectors involved in delivering the tournament.
Following a recent CAF inspection report, Kenya is set to fast track upgrades and construction across critical infrastructure. These include stadiums, training grounds, transport systems and broadcast facilities. Safety and security measures are also being enhanced to meet CAF standards.
Officials describe the process as routine but essential in ensuring compliance with international requirements. The government says each recommendation is being addressed with urgency and precision to meet timelines ahead of the tournament.
Kenya, alongside its co hosting partners under the Pamoja AFCON framework, is working toward harmonized policies to facilitate smooth tournament operations. Plans include visa facilitation mechanisms, coordinated tax exemptions and streamlined customs procedures to ease movement for teams, officials and fans across borders.
President William Ruto has emphasized the broader impact of hosting AFCON, citing economic growth, job creation and youth empowerment among key benefits.
