President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ‘surprise visit’ to his principal deputy’s office has left many political tongues wagging, a visit that was reminiscent of the good old days of bromance between the pair.
The Head of State is said to have walked to Harambee Avenue after attending an event at the KICC.

The visit to Harambee House Annexe comes just days after reports suggested ODM were preparing to table a motion to impeach William Ruto even as a section of Jubilee MPs openly asked the DP to resign.
It has been interpreted as a move to calm political temperatures amid suggestions of a fall-out over the 2022 succession and the fight against corruption.

There was no official communication on the visit, with only photos being released by the PSCU.
In open defiance and contrast to his boss’s position, the DP and his allies have described the fight against corruption as a politically-instigated move, lacking integrity and targeting one community solely to deny Ruto the chance to realize his 2022 presidential ambitions.
And as the president and his deputy went through this hitherto unseen gesture of the boss visiting his subordinate’s office, Ruto’s allies in parliament were aiming salvos at Orengo and his brigade over their impeachment threat.
Drawn from different political parties, the legislators, who included Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Mathias Robi (Kuria West) and Didmus Barasa, among others accused Siaya Senator Orengo of working for ODM leader Raila Odinga to undermine Ruto.
“… We already know that it is not Orengo speaking but Raila Odinga […] using him to destroy Jubilee but I want to warn him that his intentions will not suceed,” said Nyoro, adding the former premier was hiding under the handshake to cause political ruin.
Robi, on the other hand, accused Odinga of being politically jealous of the DP, Osoro charging at Orengo for attempting a coup during his time as a student in the university of Nairobi.
“… We are ready for your so-called impeachment motion […] We are ready to stand with Ruto,” said Robi.
“If you have not been able to bring your ODM house together just wait for us in 2022 but do not try to destroy the Jubilee party.”
Osoro, a first-timer in parliament, said: “If you think you will occupy Ruto’s position by creating and fabricating stories […] You are not a great politician by defaming your colleagues.
” We know you are jealous of Ruto’s political career so accept that he is deputy now and will be president of this Republic (of Kenya).”
Many a pundit will be reading the chronology of events, starting with the president’s visit to Ruto and the timing of the sentiments by the legislators as serious political signals but how that would alter the political landscape shaped by the handshake is only a matter of time.
