Ngong based Young Talent clinch Victor Wanyama Charity Cup
Young Talent from Ngong put up a gallant show to win the second edition of the annual Victor Wanyama Charity Cup after edging out the well drilled Dandora Youth 3-2 on post match penalties after a barren draw at the St.Mary’s school.
The winners walked home with a cool KSh.500, 000, glittering trophy and medals from Deputy President Dr.William Ruto. Dandora Youth received KSh.300, 000 while third placed Acacoro Academy earned KSh100,000 respectively.
In the ladies category,Dagoreti Mixed emerged winners after thrashing Kabete Chicks 8-0.Dagoreti ladies pocketed KSh.300,000 while Kabete received KSh.150,000 with third placed Riruta Hotspurs walking away with KSh.70,000.The chairman of the Nairobi county Sports board Hashim Kamau presented the trophies to the winners.
The tournament attracted over 16 teams for both men and ladies category.Levi Ochieng of Young Talent was voted the best Goalkeeper while Noel Mbuyi of Acacoro emerged the top scorer with six goals.Other individual award winners went to Nina Aseko from Dagoretti mixed who topped as the best Girls category Goalkeeper. Loreto convent msongari was named the best disciplined team.
Among the teams that took part in the two day’s tournament included Uwezo Queens,Dagoreti mixed,Riruta Hotpurs, Mwiki God Help,Loreto convent Msongari,Kariobangi Sports,Kick it Kenya and Kabete Chics among other teams.
The event was graced by Sports cabinet secretary Amb.Amina Mohamed,Westlands legislator Timothy Wanyonyi,Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay and the entire Wanyama family among other dignitaries.
The tournament was also supported by Brookside Dairy,Coca Cola Bottling company,Safaricom Ltd, NHIF,Bidco ,Centric Air Ambulance,Royal Entertainment among other firms.
