Chuck Norris, the martial arts champion who became a global action film star and television icon, has died at the age of 86, his family confirmed on 20 March 2026.

The family said in a statement shared on social media that Norris died peacefully on Thursday while surrounded by loved ones. The cause of death was not disclosed.

“While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace,” the statement said.

Norris first gained recognition in the late 1960s as a dominant figure in competitive karate, winning multiple championships and building a reputation as one of the sport’s leading practitioners.

His transition to Hollywood was influenced by Bruce Lee, who cast him in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon.

Hollywood success and television fame

Norris went on to establish a successful film career, starring in several action movies including Invasion USA and The Delta Force.

He later gained wider recognition through the television series Walker, Texas Ranger, which aired from 1993 to 2001.

Beyond acting, Norris became a cultural figure whose image extended into internet culture, inspiring widespread memes and references.

In his later years, he remained active through writing, philanthropy and public appearances, while also expressing political views.
